Description

Haystacks Bridge is a public road bridge built in 1794 for the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, designed by engineer Robert Whitworth. The bridge is constructed of ashlar stone and features a single segmental arch made of rusticated voussoirs, along with a band and solid parapet. The curved abutments terminate in piers. Currently, the arch is blocked, and the bridge has been dry since 1817, when a new flight of locks was constructed at Greenberfield.
