Description

The sundial shaft, dated 1696, is located approximately 18 meters south of the Parish Church of St Peter in Heysham. It is carved from a single piece of sandstone and is set on a base consisting of two steps. The shaft has a square plan, with the lower part stop-chamfered to create an octagonal shape. The upper part of the shaft features corners that are cut away, forming a square at a 45-degree angle to the main square. At the top, there is a square cap inscribed with '1696' on the south side. The sundial plate is currently missing.
