Description

A pair of houses and a former smithy, built around 1817. The buildings are constructed of rubble stone with a slate roof. They are two storeys high. The windows and doors have simple stone surrounds. Smithy Cottage, on the left, has a ground-floor window with glazing bars, with one pane able to open. The first floor has two windows, one with a six-pane sash and the other with a four-pane sash. There is a door on the right side. A chimney is located in the left-hand gable. The Forge is a single bay wide and contains windows with small panes, some of which open as casements. A door is positioned on the left side. A first-floor door, accessed by a short, external flight of stone steps set against the projecting wall of the smithy, is on the right. Chimneys are located on the left and in the wall of the smithy. The smithy has a wide opening on the left, supported by a curved timber lintel, which is open to the street. Above this opening is a blocked opening also with a timber lintel. To the right are a door and a window, both with plain reveals; the window has an external wooden shutter.
