Description
The Bower is a house dating from the late 18th century, with an extension added to the south in the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed watershot stone and has a slate roof. The building has two storeys and originally consists of three bays, featuring chamfered quoins and end stacks. The ground floor may have been altered; it includes a front door with a plain stone surround and an iron porch to the south, along with two windows that have plain stone surrounds and modern casements. The first-floor windows are sashed with glazing bars, also set in plain stone surrounds. The southern extension, which adds one bay, features a tall plain stone surround with a shorter sashed window with glazing bars. There is another sashed window with glazing bars and a plain stone surround on the first floor of the extension. The gable has a stack, and the eaves overhang on square brackets. At the rear, there are later extensions, including a tall stair window with small panes located at the back of the main house. Inside, there is an open string stair with turned newels, a swept handrail, and two slim turned balusters for each tread.
