Description
Farr House is a house built in the mid to later 18th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble with a slate roof at the front and a stone slate roof at the rear. The house has two storeys and four bays. The windows feature glazing bars, plain stone surrounds, and flat-faced mullions. The right-hand two bays are older and include three-light windows on the ground floor and two-light windows above. Between these bays is a door with a plain stone surround. To the left, beyond a straight joint, are two bays with two-light windows. There are doors with plain stone surrounds on each side, although the right-hand door is now blocked and has a window with a central flat-faced mullion instead. The house has chimneys on the gables, located to the right of the left-hand bay and between the original house and the extension.
Inside, the earlier section of the house features a shouldered stone fireplace with a pulvinated frieze and a moulded cornice mantel. To the left of the fireplace is a built-in cupboard with shouldered raised and fielded panels on its upper part. The rear wall of this room is made up of raised and fielded oak panelling. The dog-leg stair has turned balusters and newels topped with ball finials.
