Description
Rose Cottage is a house built in 1691, with a slightly later rear wing. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof at the front, while the rear has a combination of slate and tile. The building stands two storeys high. The west wall has two bays, each containing two-light rebated and chamfered windows with restored mullions. The door, located between the bays, has plain reveals. A chimney is situated on the left-hand gable. The left-hand gable wall includes a two-light wooden-mullioned window on the first floor. The adjoining wall of the rear wing features a rebated and chamfered window surround with the central mullion removed on both floors, and there is a chimney on the rear gable. Inside, the front range displays exposed ceiling joists and a shouldered stone fireplace, which has an inscribed lintel reading 'RC 1691'. The rear wing contains a wide segmental-arched fireplace that includes a bread oven.
