Description

This is an early to mid-18th century house located on The Lane in Overton. The structure is built of sandstone rubble with a slate roof. It is two storeys high, with a ground floor window featuring plain reveals, and a blocked window to its right. A door is situated to the left, accompanied by a flight of stone steps leading to a first-floor door, both having plain stone surrounds. The first floor has two sash windows with plain stone surrounds. A chimney is present on the left-hand gable, and the gables are topped with copings and kneelers. Local tradition suggests the house was originally built as the brew house for the nearby Ship Inn. A local legend recounts that Sambo, an African slave, died at the house in 1736; he is said to be buried nearby.
