Description

Two houses, formerly a single dwelling, date from 1663 and were altered in the 19th century. They are constructed with cobbles and sandstone dressings, and have a steep green slate roof, likely replacing thatch. The buildings are arranged in an L-shape. The front facade has drip courses that are broken by the addition of later windows. The houses are two storeys high with an attic. There are two main bays. The windows have painted stone surrounds and are 20th-century casements, some designed to resemble sash windows. Above the original doorway is a single rebated and chamfered window, typical of 17th-century design. The doorways are paired in the centre of the facade. The right-hand doorway (leading to No. 9) has a plain painted stone surround. The left-hand doorway has a chamfered surround with quoined jambs and a decorated lintel inscribed '16 IC M RC 63'. The gables have copings. A chimney to the right has weathered detailing. A second chimney is located on the rear wing's ridge, near where it joins the main house. The left-hand gable wall has chamfered and rebated windows—one and three lights on the ground floor, one and one light on the first floor, and three lights to the attic. The adjoining wall of the rear wing features 20th-century casement windows in painted surrounds.
