Description
26 and 28 Sun Street are a pair of houses that have been converted into shops. They were built around 1800 and have been altered in the 20th century. The buildings are made of sandstone ashlar, with coursed rubble on the sides and rear, and feature slate roofs with gable chimneys. The design includes a double-depth plan with entrances linked in the second bay, short linked rear extensions, and a waggon entrance in the fifth bay. To the left of the waggon entrance, there are what appear to be the remains of a loading bay and cellar entrance. The buildings rise four storeys above cellars and consist of five bays. All openings have plain reveals. The doorways are slightly recessed and topped with a wide pediment supported by two plain consoles, featuring two external steps and three recessed steps. The doors have nine raised and fielded panels. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, containing 20, 16, and 12 panes. Below all the ground-floor windows, there are low cellar openings, and the waggon entrance has a flat lintel.
