Description
This is a house, later converted into flats, dating from approximately 1775, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar with ashlar dressings, and has a slate roof with gable stacks. The building has a basement expressed as a plinth, and an eaves cornice with a balustrade. It comprises four bays, with the third bay slightly projecting as a panel. This panel contains a first-floor window and a doorway with a simple surround, possibly inserted into an earlier loading slot. The other windows have moulded architraves and contain 12-pane sashes. To the left of the doorway, an original window has been converted into a door, and to the left again is a lintelled waggon entrance. To the right of this entrance is a three-stepped mounting block. The house was built by a timber importer who supplied mahogany to Gillow.
