Description

East Lodge to the former Aldcliffe Hall is a lodge that has been converted into a house. It was built in 1827 and extended in the mid-20th century. The lodge was constructed for Edward Dawson of Aldcliffe Hall, which has since been demolished. The building features squared coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings and has a slate roof with coped gables and kneelers that support spike finials, reflecting an Elizabethan style.

The lodge is single-storey and originally consists of two bays, with a matching extension of one bay added to the right. It has two pairs of octagonal chimneys on the ridge, positioned between the original bays and above the original right-hand gable. Flanking the entrance door are cross-windows, each with splayed jambs, hollow-chamfered timber mullions and transoms, and glazing bars that create octagonal panes surrounded by four diamonds. The doorway is sheltered by a recent wooden lean-to porch and features splayed jambs, along with what may be the original door. The left-hand gable displays a single cross-window beneath a datestone inscribed with '1827' in raised lettering.
