Description

The Royal Hotel, with its adjoining outbuildings, is likely to date from the mid-18th century, with later additions from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The main building is constructed of roughcast and painted rubble with a slate roof. It has two storeys and three bays, featuring windows with glazing bars, a mixture of sash and casement styles, and plain stone surrounds. Most windows have a central flat-faced mullion, except for the ground-floor windows in bays two and three, where the mullions have been removed. The doorway, situated between the second and third bays, has a stone surround with a narrow chamfer. Chimneys are visible to the left and right of the building and between the first and second bays.

To the right of the main building stands a former three-storey warehouse with its gable facing the road. This has a door at the left, with a chamfered stone surround, and a window to its right with plain reveals. Above is a former loading door with plain reveals and glazing bar sashes separated by a transom. Adjoining the warehouse is a former barn, featuring a cart entrance with a segmental arch, a door with plain reveals, and a mid-20th century shop front inserted on its right side.

To the left of the main building is another former farm building, also with a cart entrance with segmental arch and a door with plain reveals. A single bay of living accommodation extends to the right, displaying 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars and plain stone surrounds, a matching door, and a chimney to the left.

A disused wing at the rear of the former farm building, likely once two houses, has two bays facing south with plain stone surrounds. The west gable of this wing features a re-used 17th-century three-light mullioned window.
