Description
This building is a school located approximately 50 meters east of the Church of St. Bede, dating from around 1830, with extensions and alterations likely made in the 1870s. It is constructed of coursed sandstone and sandstone rubble, topped with a slate roof featuring one gable chimney. The school has a rectangular plan consisting of six bays, although it originally had four bays. It stands two storeys high and includes a porch on the left end, a string course, and six rectangular windows on each floor, with the outer two in the added section. All windows have plain stone cases and altered glazing. The doorway features a round-headed stone case and a fanlight with radiating glazing bars. There are traces of the original door located between the second and third windows, though it is now somewhat concealed. The right gable wall has two doors and a window on the ground floor, along with a round-headed window on the first floor and an inserted upper door leading to an iron fire escape. The rear wall is made of rubble. Inside, the school originally had one room on each floor, which has been somewhat altered, but it still includes the original ventilation system between the floors.
