Description
Lilac Cottage and the adjacent Lilac Cottage Three Doors Down are a pair of weavers' cottages, likely built in the late 18th century. They have an unusual layout as a row with loomshops in the center, facing the road with gable ends. The cottages are constructed from sandstone rubble, featuring a coursed sandstone facade and large quoins, topped with a slate roof that has two ridge chimneys. The buildings have an elongated rectangular single-pile plan consisting of four bays and stand two storeys tall.
There are four doors: one at each end and two in the center, which have been inserted into parts of the loomshop windows. All doors have plain stone cases. Each floor contains four windows; the two center windows on the ground floor were originally three square lights but have been altered to two. The windows on the right end have modified glazing, while the remaining windows are sashed with glazing bars. The rear wall features windows only in the two center bays, including two loomshop windows, each with three square lights, and two plain square windows on the first floor.
