Description

Coppull Ring Mill is a cotton spinning mill built in 1906, now known as Coppull Enterprise Centre Ltd. The building features red and yellow brick with yellow terracotta detailing and is designed in an Art Nouveau style. It has a very large rectangular plan with a tower attached to the east side and an engine house on the west side, both located near the south end. The structure includes a basement and three storeys that diminish in height, along with a flat-roofed two-storey range on the west side.

The five-stage tower and two-storey engine house are notable features, with yellow terracotta bands at three levels, a dentilled cornice, and yellow terracotta battlements at the southeast corner. The tall nine-paned windows have low segmental heads and are arranged in continuous bands of yellow brick, with eight windows south of the tower and thirty north of it. On the east side, the central bay, which is seven windows wide, is distinguished by six red brick pilasters and a coping inscribed with "COPPULL O SPINNING COMPANY 1906 LIMITED."

At the north end of the building, there are three turrets, including a hexagonal blind turret with yellow terracotta battlements at the northwest corner, which serves as a dust chute. The tower on the east side has chamfered corners and a fourth floor adorned with two levels of wavy yellow terracotta battlements, topped by a pilastered octagonal belvedere with similar battlements and a green copper dome. The engine house, positioned at right angles to the west side, features round-headed first-floor windows with yellow brick heads linked by an impost band, comprising eight windows on each side and three at the end. Other parts of the mill are styled to match. Some alterations and restoration were in progress at the time of the survey.
