Description

Hough House Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with alterations likely made in the 18th century. It is constructed with cruck framing and coursed squared sandstone, featuring large quoins at the base made of very large dressed rectangular blocks. The farmhouse has a steeply-pitched slate roof with a modern chimney on the ridge.

The building has a three-bay plan, with a projecting porch and kitchen at the junction of the second and third bays on the east side, and a former porch at the junction of the first and second bays on the west side. It is one and a half storeys tall. The gabled porch on the east side has a door in the right side wall and a 3-light chamfered flush mullion window in the gable wall. To the left of the porch, there is a similar 3-light window and a square casement, while to the right, there is a small blocked window that resembles a fire window.

The left gable features an extruded brick chimney, with two square windows on the ground floor and one above. The right gable has one large inserted window on each floor. On the rear (west side), there are recessed chamfered mullion windows with 3 and 4 lights, and a gabled dormer above the latter, which includes a 3-light window. A small gabled porch protects an inner doorway with a moulded surround, which is now blocked.

Inside, the farmhouse has been altered, but the partition wall between the first (south) and middle bays incorporates a full cruck truss.
