Description
Nos. 53, 55, and 57 Chapel Street are three early 19th-century houses that have been converted into shops. They are constructed of brick with stone dressings and feature a basement, topped with a slate roof and three chimneys. Each house is a double pile design, consisting of two bays and two storeys, along with a basement.
The first floor has a stone sill band and cornice. The doorway on the left has fluted jambs and a lintel, with the jambs extending up to a round fanlight that features Y-tracery, except for No. 55. There are five stone steps leading to the doorway, which are accompanied by plain iron railings; beneath these steps is a basement door. The well of the basement is protected by hooped iron railings. The windows have splayed stone heads, except for those in the basement, but all the windows have altered glazing.
