Description
Peel Hall Cottage is a house, now divided into two homes, likely dating from the 14th or 15th century. It is constructed of brick and features a slate and stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and consists of four bays, with the end bays projecting forward under gables. The structure includes cruck frame construction and has varied casement windows. The entrance is adorned with an architrave, frieze, cornice, and a six-fielded-panel door. There are several brick chimney stacks. The rear of the building features a projecting gabled bay to the left and a later gabled projection.
Inside, the cottage likely contains five cruck trusses, two of which are visible, with braced cambered collars; one truss has been altered for a first-floor entrance, and there are wind braces present. Remnants of wattle and daub walling can also be found. The ground floor retains old door frames and four-panel doors. The original layout is believed to have included a two-bay full-height hall and a cross-passage, along with a parlour, buttery, and pantry.
