Description

Beech Hill Farm, now a house, is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 17th century and has undergone significant alterations. It features scored render painted white and a slate roof. The building has a single-depth, three-bay plan with a parallel one-bay range on the north side.

The exterior displays a facade with two gabled bays; the left bay is smaller and set back. The ground floor has enlarged windows with four and five lights, while the first floor has a slightly enlarged three-light window on the left and a four-light window on the right with chamfered mullions. All these windows, except the right ground floor window, have hood-moulds. There is a ridge chimney on the left range and a narrow side-wall chimney on the right-hand range. The right-hand return side has three-light chamfered mullion windows at the first floor of the first bay and on both floors of the second bay, although other features have been altered.

Inside, the first bay of the larger portion contains two large chamfered lateral beams and original chamfered joists of square section. The second bay has one similar beam and similar joists, while the smaller portion has two replacement beams. There is a timber-framed partition between the bays with an exposed tie-beam, and a heavy studded plank door with elaborate strap hinges below the tie-beam, although this doorway is now blocked to the rear. The first bay also features a fine chamber fireplace with a moulded surround and a deep triangular lintel. Other interior elements have been altered.

Additionally, there is a wall to the street made of coursed sandstone rubble, approximately one meter high, with rounded coping and a wide gateway to the yard on the right-hand side of the house.
