Description

Davenportgreen Hall is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from 1617, with a later addition of the 18th or 19th century. The original core is timber-framed with square panels, while the later wing is of rendered brick with a stone slate roof. The original 3-bay, 2-storey wing, initially comprising two units, is now a large room on each floor. The main house section occupied bays 2 and 3, and a cross passage may have been located to the right of bay 3, where the later crosswing now projects. A substantial 20th-century extension is present to the right. The building features a stone plinth and diagonal bracing. There are three timber casement windows with ovolo-moulded mullions – two 3-light and one 2-light – on each floor, all dating from around 1980. A later porch and wing with 2-light and 3-light casement windows, including 20th-century hoodmoulds, have been added. The gable displays an ovolo-moulded tie-beam. Inside the original core and the former parlour (now a single large room) are chamfered primary beams and posts; those in the original house section are ovolo-moulded. The upper floor contains an inserted suite of rooms, which retain exposed tie-beam roof timbers, a fine 17th-century plasterwork fire surround with vine, rose and animal motifs in relief, and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
