Description

The former cross base in St. Matthew's Churchyard is a Grade II listed structure, believed to have Medieval origins. It is made of roughly hewn stone and has a cubic shape. At the top, there are remains of a sundial shaft, and one side has been refaced and inscribed in 1863 to mark its relocation from the junction of Chester Road and King Street. This cross base was later used as a sundial base.
