Description
The Church of St Alban is a church built in 1900 by architects Austin and Paley. It is constructed of English bond brick with stone dressings and has a clay tile roof. The church features a nave, clerestory, and aisles that were intended to be much longer but remain unfinished, along with transepts, a chancel, and a vestry. The clerestory and aisles have two bays, with three-light traceried clerestory windows and four-light cusped aisle windows. The south transept continues the aisle, and the one-bay chancel is an extension of the nave. In contrast, the north transept is taller, has a separate roof, and includes an east-facing bellcote designed originally with cusped arcading, swept coping, and grotesque corner figures. At this point, the eaves are coped and feature carved mouchettes. The vestry has a pyramidal roof, and its east window consists of five lights arranged in two tiers with cusped heads. Inside, the church has a brick-faced, double-chamfered moulded brick nave arcade supported by octagonal stone columns. The crossing arches vary in height, and the roof features king-post construction. There are ogee-headed sedilia and a piscina, along with original light fittings.
