Description

The Hyde War Memorial Obelisk is located in Werneth Low Country Park and was dedicated on 25th June 1921. It is constructed from granite and features iron railings. The obelisk has banded rustication and an inscription on its base that reads, "They willingly left the unachieved purpose of their lives in order that all life should not be wrenched from its purpose." A plaque on the rear commemorates the Second World War (1939-45) and there is a bronze coat of arms. The plain railings include corner wreaths. This memorial is prominently situated on a hill overlooking Hyde.
