Description

A large house, now divided into three cottages, dating to the 17th century with possible earlier origins, and with significant rebuilding in the 19th century. The building is constructed of roughly coursed rubble, dressed stone, and brick, with slate and stone slate roofs. The central part of the house was largely rebuilt in the 19th century following a fire. The structure comprises a two-storey central section, a three-storey crosswing to the east (right), and a two-storey crosswing to the west (left), which project forward and rearward. The western crosswing, likely the oldest part of the building, features a projecting plinth, quoins, a coped gable with kneelers, and a ball finial, with two windows on the front. The side and rear elevations of this crosswing retain four-light and one two-light double-chamfered mullion windows. The eastern crosswing has two four-light, two two-light, and one three-light double-chamfered mullion windows. This crosswing also has coped gables with kneelers, various blocked windows on the side, and two four-light, two three-light windows, and a doorway to the rear. The central section preserves a small but ornate Jacobean chimney-piece with heavily enriched turned side columns. Chamfered beams with stepped stops are present throughout much of the house's interior.
