Description
This is a mile post located at the junction with Middlewood Road on Buxton Road in High Lane. It dates from 1898 but is positioned next to an earlier post, likely from the early 19th century, which is obscured. The mile post is made of cast iron and has a triangular shape. The upper face displays "Cheshire County Council 1898," while the left side indicates distances to Stockport (4 3/4 miles) and Manchester (11 miles). The right side shows distances to Disley (2 miles), Whaley Bridge (6 miles), and Buxton (13 miles). The earlier stone shaft, although unreadable, features a shaped head.
