Description
No. 3 Worsley Road is a house and shop dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of rendered stone and features a graduated stone slate roof with stone dressings. The building has three storeys and is arranged in a three by two bay layout. The entrance door is located between the first and second bays and is flanked by two and three-light casement windows. There is an additional window on the ground floor and three more on the first and second floors, all of which have one, two, or three lights and chamfered stone mullions, with some being double-chamfered. The gables are coped and feature kneelers and a finial. The building has ridge and gable chimney stacks with diagonally set shafts. There are two chamfered door surrounds and six-panel doors at the first floor level in the right gable end, along with a small addition that has a hipped roof. The sides and rear have similar windows. Historical records indicate that in 1807, the building was depicted in a line drawing by F. Mullineux in "The Duke of Bridgewater's Canal." Over the years, it has served various purposes, including a nail-maker's shop, a library, a reading room, and a residence.
