Description
The bridge over the branches of the Bridgewater Canal at The Delph was originally built around 1760 and has been rebuilt, repaired, and enlarged in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from dressed stone, brick, and features iron railings. To the west of No. 3 Worsley Road, there are two arches: the first is a small semi-circular brick arch designed to accommodate boats from the mine before trans-shipment, and the second is a large blind segmental brick arch with a stone band, which was built when the road was widened and raised. To the east of No. 3, there are two similar arches, one blind and one open. Above the arches, the structure is built up with brick, stone, or in some places rock. The parapet consists of either brick with a round-topped stone coping or iron railings that span between shaped ashlar posts with caps.
