Description
Irwell Street Bridge, located over the River Irwell, was built around 1880. It features stone, cast-iron, and wrought-iron or steel materials. The bridge has stone piers and abutments on either side, supporting paired arched trusses with lattice-work cross bracing, which includes decorative rosettes over the rivets. The road bed is held up by lateral cast-iron beams, with their ends also adorned with rosettes. The cast-iron parapet is divided into panels, each featuring solid latticework. At each end of the bridge, there are low relief panels displaying the arms of the cities of Salford and Manchester.
