Description
The Mark Addy Memorial, located in Weaste Cemetery, was erected in 1890 to honor Mark Addy. It is made of polished granite and features an obelisk that stands on a stepped base. The obelisk is decorated with incised designs and includes a medallion. An inscription on the base commemorates Addy's heroic efforts in saving more than fifty people from drowning in the River Irwell, for which he received the Albert Medal (first class) from the Queen, among other awards. The memorial was funded by public subscription.
