Description
Castle Hill House is a house built around 1820. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a hipped slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a double-pile layout with a central entrance. The three-bay facade includes a prominent central bay with a pediment. The entrance features a four-panel door with an ornate overlight, approached by two steps and flanked by attached Tuscan columns and entablatures. The house has a plinth, a first-floor sill band, a plain cornice, a parapet, and original sash windows with glazing bars, along with a panelled apron on the ground floor. The plain pediment displays an uncarved shield and scroll. There are two central chimney stacks. Inside, the house boasts fine plasterwork and stone fireplaces. Its elevated position allows it to be seen from various locations throughout Rochdale, as it is situated on the former site of Rochdale Castle.
