Description

Healey Hall is a house dating to 1774, as indicated on a keystone. It is constructed of ashlar and features a large central doorway and hall, with a room on either side. The house is two rooms deep and includes a single-storey side entrance wing and an added wing to the rear. The facade has seven bays and two storeys, topped by a triangular pediment over the central three bays. The doorway is framed by Roman Doric attached columns, an entablature, and a pediment containing carved inscriptions on the tympanum and frieze, surrounding a semi-circular headed opening with a keystone and fanlight. A sill band runs across the first floor, and a cornice and parapet complete the top of the facade. The pediment features a carved armorial tympanum, and the central window has a lugged and heeled architrave and a fluted keystone. All the windows are original. The roof is hipped. At the rear, there is a Palladian window to the stair hall, and dormer windows are visible on both the side and rear elevations. Behind the house, a stone records the building of a stable in 1775, along with a datestone from the previous house. This datestone is inscribed with the Latin text "non Aquilo impotens possit diruere IC.CC.MC.MDCCLXXIV" (the north wind does not have the power to destroy, 1774). The interior contains good plasterwork dating to the mid-19th century.
