Description
Springwood House is a house believed to have been built in 1797. It is constructed of hammer-dressed watershot stone and has a graduated stone slate roof. The building features a double-depth central-staircase plan with two storeys and a small lean-to against the right gable. Notable architectural elements include a projecting plinth, raised quoins, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course.
A flight of steps leads to the central door, which is adorned with a fanlight, keystone, and archivolt. The house has paired sash windows without glazing bars, featuring square-cut surrounds in bays one and three, and a single sash window with an apron on the central first floor. Gable chimney stacks with cornices are present, along with similar gable windows, except for a semi-circular-headed attic window that is now blocked and includes impost blocks and a keystone. A full-height stair window at the rear is similarly detailed. Additionally, there is a 19th-century castellated porch at the rear.
