Description

This late 18th and early 19th century shop and house is located on the east side of King Street, Delph. It is constructed of hammer-dressed watershot stone in narrow courses, with a graduated stone slate roof. The building is two bays wide and two storeys high, with a former workshop at basement level. A central six-panel door, approached by stone steps and a raised platform with cast-iron railings, has an overlight and is flanked by multi-paned bow windows, all sheltered by a continuous moulded hood. The first floor has a five-light recessed flat-faced mullion window, and a later sash window to the left. A door to the basement level has an inscribed but unreadable lintel, and a five-light window with two mullions removed. Matching four-light windows are found on each floor at the rear, along with a rear door with a square-cut surround. A brick ridge chimney stack is present.
