Description
A terrace of eight cottages is located on Roundthorn Road in Oldham. Dating to the late 18th century, the cottages are constructed of brick with stone flagged roofs. They are low, two-story buildings arranged in an eight-window range. The outer cottages, numbers 264 and 278, have doorways positioned on their gable ends; the gable end of number 278 has been rebuilt. The remaining cottages have doorways centrally located. Each cottage has a single-unit plan. Doorways with leaded overlights are found at numbers 272-276, likely dating to around 1930. The windows of numbers 270 and 272 also feature tall leaded lights, also likely dating to around 1930. The windows of numbers 274-276 have been renewed, and the ground-floor window of number 278 has been altered. Earlier windows remain in numbers 266 and 268, including a four-light mullioned window on the ground floor of number 268, and a three-light mullioned window above. A mullioned window to the left of the entrance to number 266 is now two lights, having likely originally been four. Brick stacks are present in the end walls. This building is recognised for its group value.
