Description

The Statue of Joseph Howarth was erected in 1868 and created by sculptor H. Burnett of Oldham. It is made of polished granite and sandstone. The statue features a life-size figure in sandstone, depicting Joseph Howarth, who is known as the blind bellman of Oldham. He is shown carrying a bell and a stick while wearing a top hat. The statue stands on a high granite plinth with a cornice and was funded by public subscription.
