SD90SW ALT LANE 780-1/3/9 (South side) 23/01/73 Alders Farmhouse (Formerly Listed as: ALT LANE Alders Farmhouse with attached buildings)

GV II

Farmhouse. Dated 1734 but with possible earlier core. Coursed and squared sandstone rubble with stone flagged roof. 2 storeys, main range with cross wing, 2 principal units in main range with opposed front and rear entrances against stack. Main front faces away from road. Wide gable to left, with wide window (probably once mullioned) in plain stone architrave to ground floor, mullioned window above. 2 windows to left of entrance, one a wide 2-light mullioned window in which further mullions have possibly been removed. Similar window to right of doorway. Low 3-light mullioned window above, and a further casement window, the original mullion possibly removed. Date stone over rear doorway, facing street, with initials I.A. 3 stone mullioned windows each of 3 lights in rear elevation, and a single-storeyed wing added to the right of the doorway. Two axial stacks. Adjoining the house on the east side is the present dairy, once in use as stables, but possibly originally domestic and perhaps incorporating the oldest part of the complex. Low 2 storeys, single window range to front, but with wide gabled wing to rear. 3-light mullioned window to ground floor, and traces of blocked loft entry over.
