Description

Higginbottom Farmhouse, now a house, likely dates from the early 19th century and has been altered since. The building is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a slate roof. It has a double-depth, four-room plan, plus a service wing attached to the rear right corner and a half-sunk dairy in the angle. The symmetrical facade has two windows per floor. A central doorway is topped by a pitched wooden canopy; the original door has been altered. Segmental-headed windows, all now top-hung casements imitating sash windows, are present on each floor. Casement windows are located at the rear. The building forms a group with the nearby Gatehouse and bell-turret, and Green’s Farmhouse.
