Description

The Church of St Andrew is a church built between 1907 and 1908 by architect R.B. Preston. It is constructed of speckled whitened and red brick in header bond, with red brick and red terracotta dressings, and features a green slate roof. The church is designed in a Free Perpendicular style and consists of an aisled nave and chancel that form a single vessel, with a small tower on the north side and a shallow canted apse at the west end.

On the south side, there are eight bays with buttresses that have swept pitched tops. The buttress between the fifth and sixth bays is notably larger and extends above the parapet. The windows in the second and fourth bays are 2-centred arched windows with three lights, while the other bays feature two-light windows. These windows have terracotta mullions and Perpendicular tracery, which includes simplified mouchettes and cusps that end in small circles, creating a dotted texture, along with hoodmoulds. There is also a gabled porch at the first bay that is adorned with terracotta enrichment.

The east gable, which faces the street, has three bays with buttresses and features windows with three, five, and three lights, showcasing similar but more elaborate tracery. A foundation stone dated September 1907 is located here. The apse at the west end contains windows with one, three, and one light, along with a parapet. The north side has windows with four, three, and three lights, and features a small square tower in the center that has a 2-centred arched doorway, segmental-pointed belfry windows, an embattled parapet, and a pyramidal roof. There is also a gabled porch at the west end with a doorway on its east side. The interior has not been inspected.
