Description
Mauldeth Hall is an early to mid-19th century late Grecian villa located on Mauldeth Road. The building is two storeys high, constructed in ashlar with a hipped slate roof, featuring a parapet and cornice. The façade has a symmetrical arrangement of windows, with a pattern of 2-3-2 in surrounds that include a cornice. The hung sashes have glazing bars and aprons, and the centre of the building projects forward. On the ground floor, there are two windows in each block, and this level is channelled. The main entrance features a door in a moulded surround, accessed by a flight of steps leading to a columned portico in the Greek Doric style. There is a band at the first-floor cills and between the storeys. The right-hand section of the building has an Ionic unfluted pilaster treatment and a pedimented gable. The front of the building is partly obscured by a two-storey extension added in 1881, which has mainly three-light windows to the right. Additionally, there is a rounded bay of two storeys on the side elevation. Mauldeth Hall was purchased on February 7, 1854, to serve as a residence for the Bishops of Manchester and later became a hospital for Incurable Diseases.
