Description

The Church of St Peter is a church built in 1860 by Alfred G. Fisher, with enlargements made in 1872 and 1896. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble and features a steeply-pitched slate roof, designed in the Early English style. The church includes a nave with a south-west steeple and a north porch, as well as a chancel with a north vestry.

The tower is supported by buttresses and has a 2-centred arched west doorway with a deeply moulded surround and a recessed cusped opening. Above this doorway is a small lancet window, and there is a weathered band at the belfry stage, which is slightly set back and features a small 2-light louvred window and a clock-face under an unusual inverted-V-shaped crocketed mould that terminates in a gablet at the foot of the spire. The spire itself is a broach spire adorned with two ornamented bands and a weathervane.

On the adjoining west gable of the nave, there is a large 2-centred arched 5-light window with elaborate geometrical tracery, while the west end of the aisle has a smaller 3-light window with simpler tracery. The 5-bay nave contains small clerestory windows with 2 cusped lights. The aisle features 2-centred arched windows with geometrical tracery and mouchettes, and in the second bay, there is a large gabled porch with low eaves, a moulded doorway, and a coped gable. The interior has not been inspected.
