Description
Shores Fold Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house, believed to date from around 1670 and significantly altered over time. The building is primarily constructed of brick, which is mostly painted white, and features a stone slate roof. It has a rectangular plan that is one-and-a-half depths and consists of two storeys with two windows. The central 19th-century gabled porch covers the original door surround, which has a pediment and pilasters, all made of brick. There are two steel casement windows, and the chimney stack is slightly offset to the right of the centre. At the rear, there are two small two-light horizontal sliding sash windows on the first floor, along with a lean-to porch and an outbuilding to the right.
Inside, the farmhouse features two pairs of 17th-century chamfered ceiling beams; the beams in the left front room are axial and have cyma stops, while those in the other room are lateral and of lesser quality. There is also a dog-legged staircase with splat-balusters. This farmhouse is an early and rare example of a small house with a rectangular and almost double-depth plan, and it has an almost symmetrical facade. It forms a group with Nos 2 and 4 Shoresfold Cottages.
