Description
The Manchester Law Library is a law library built in 1885 by Thomas Hartas. It features a rectangular plan and is designed in the Venetian Gothic style, constructed from sandstone ashlar with a slate roof. The building has a two-storey, three-bay facade that includes a basement and an attic. Notable architectural elements include hexagonal shafts and bands of round-headed geometrical blind tracery above the ground floor openings. The parapet is inscribed with "MANCHESTER" and "LAW LIBRARY" on either side of the center. A recessed doorway is located to the right, sheltered by a screen of open tracery. The library has large three-light sashed windows on both floors, all featuring trefoil lights, with the first-floor windows also displaying quatrefoils above. The central window is in an oriel with an open-arcaded parapet. The attic features arcaded trefoil-headed sashed windows. A dentilled cornice completes the design. The interior has not been inspected.
