Description

The Church of St Thomas and St John was built between 1864 and 1869 by W Walker of Manchester. It is prominently located on an open slope above the road and is designed in a perpendicular style. The building is constructed from coursed rubble and is large in size. It features a west tower with a panelled middle stage, a top stage that has paired louvred windows, and is adorned with panelled battlements and pinnacles. The chancel, aisles, and nave are all battlemented. The clerestory windows are straight-headed, while the other windows are four-centre-headed. Additionally, there are stair windows at the west ends of the aisles.
