Description
This is a terrace of eight houses located on St Paul's Place in Bolton, dated 1847 and attributed to the architect James Greenhalgh. The houses were built as back-to-back dwellings, with number 16 originally serving as the vicarage for St Paul's Church. They are constructed of well-coursed and squared stone, with slate roofs. The houses are arranged as a 16-window range. The front elevations feature doorways within 4-centred arched architraves, topped with drop-ended hoodmoulds. They also incorporate 12-pane sash windows set within chamfered 4-centred arched architraves and hoodmoulds. Number 16 has full-height canted bay windows on each side of the central entrance. The rear elevation, originally a separate row of dwellings, displays similar detailing. End wall stacks are present. The interior of the houses was not inspected. Decorative moulded panels on the interior record the name and date of the terrace, built as part of a small model factory community by the Ainsworth family. The terrace was originally listed on 26 April 1974 and mistakenly removed on 5 December 1975.
