Description

Redlane Bridge is a road bridge over the Bridgewater Canal, built around 1770 by James Brindley for the Duke of Bridgewater. It is constructed of brown brick with a sandstone band along the arch and flush copings on the parapets. The bridge features an approximately semicircular arch, with abutments that are curved in plan and battered in section, as well as stepped parapets. The pavement and the canal walls beneath the bridge are made of sandstone. There is also a mid-20th century footbridge, which is not included in the listing, that has brick abutments built against the west side of the original bridge's abutments. The northern half of the bridge is located in Stockton Heath civil parish.
