Description
Old Village Farm is a former threshing barn and attached shippon, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of red-brown brick with some sandstone and features a stone-slate roof that has been partly replaced with graded and plain grey slate. The barn includes porches at both the front and back, each covered by pentice roofs. There is a full-height doorway at the front, supported by an oak camber-beam. The shippon, which is oriented at right angles to the barn, has minimally altered camber-arched doorways with boarded doors, as well as loophole vents for the cowshed and hayloft. The barn, which is open to the roof, contains three rows of loophole vents. Inside, both the shippon and barn feature Kingpost trusses made of oak, with some timbers likely reused from 17th-century buildings. The trusses in the barn are supported by braced wall-posts.
