Description
The brick sewer vent, possibly designed by engineer J.S. Sinclair around 1893, is located in the former Borough of Widnes at Mill Brow. This structure is made of red brick with a blue brick plinth and stands approximately thirty feet high and four feet square internally. The shaft tapers as it rises and features narrow sunken details on each face, with two on the lower half and one with a rounded head near the top, which includes a keystone. At the top, the vent has a weathered projecting cap supported by corbels. It is the only remaining shaft from an early sewage system that was designed to manage effluent from the chemical industry.
