Description
Upper Belgrave Lodge is a lodge built in 1877 by John Douglas for the 1st Duke of Westminster. It is constructed from red brick with randomly placed sandstone blocks. The upper storey features a jettied oak-framed projection at the front and some tile hanging. The roofs are made of red tiles, with gabled and hipped shapes, topped with terracotta finials. There is a shaped, stone-dressed brick chimney, and the front gable displays coloured pargetting. The building is T-shaped and 1½ storeys high, designed in the Jacobethan style. It has a carved bressumer on the front gable, with shaped window surrounds and mullions; the lower storey has stone surrounds while the upper storey has oak. The windows include small pane iron casements, which are likely replacements, below and casements with patterned leaded glazing above. A projecting oak-framed porch is located on the left end, resting on a sandstone plinth, and features a shaped boarded oak door set in a Tudor arched doorway with a pargetted panel above. There is a single storey rear wing that has been altered. Inside, the plan has been modified, but it includes a dogleg stair with wrought octagonal newels and shaped balusters, as well as 6 and 4-panel pine doors with chamfered rails and shaped muntins.
