Description
The churchyard wall, located along High Street, School Lane, and Southbank in Great Budworth, dates from the late medieval period, the 18th century, and the mid-19th century. It is constructed from sandstone and brick. The wall likely originates from the late medieval period, featuring squared coursed rubble sandstone with steeply-weathered roll coping situated between the lychgate on High Street and the Old School House on School Lane. To the east of the Old School House, there is 18th-century brickwork with plain stone coping that drops in quadrant steps. The wall includes plain stone piers that support secondary iron gates leading to School Lane. Additionally, there is a wall of coursed rubble sandstone, probably from the late medieval period, located to the south of the lychgate along Southbank, which contains a water trough that was formerly supplied from the churchyard, set in an arched recess. Finally, the south side of the churchyard along Southbank features a wall made of two courses of large stone slabs, likely from the mid-19th century.
