Description
This is a town house dating from around 1780, situated on Watergate Street in Chester. The building is constructed of brown brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a grey slate roof. It is three storeys high. A painted stone plinth includes a barred opening leading to the cellar, and two stone steps lead to a replaced six-panel door, which is located on the east side of the building. The door is surrounded by fluted pilasters and a pediment with a reeded frieze. There are two almost flush sash windows, now with four panes each, to every storey, with the sashes on the third storey being unequal. A painted stone sill band runs along the second storey. All second-storey windows have painted stone sills and cambered rusticated wedge lintels with reeded false keystones. The building has a cornice with a reeded frieze, and two chimneys are located on the west side.
The rear elevation features a tall window with 27 panes, a small monopitch outshut on the west side, and a flush sash window with four panes. A further small recessed four-pane sash window has been inserted into the second storey, and a 12-pane flush sash window is situated on the third storey. The stair window, along with those on the second storey, have painted stone sills and cambered brick heads. The interior was not inspected during the listing process.
